Sludge-like fluid leaking out of shaft case/rear wheel bearing

#1 Post by hestonkent » Thu May 16, 2019 4:52 am

Hey all,

Got a ryker 900 rally edition ive put somewhere just short of 1100 miles on. Came out to ride it yesterday only to notice there was a little puddle of fluid on the bottom of the rim of the wheel. I was looking to see where the fluid came from and spotted a dark greenish/blueish substance seeping out from what looks like the bearing between the case and the wheel, i had to go on the right side of the bike (driver's position right) and look up from the ground to spot this on the disc.

Anyone know what that fluid might be? Already took it into a dealer and theyre going to take a look at it either today or tomorrow. They also want to charge me $140 just for the diagnostics, do yall think something like this would be covered under warranty? They arent the same dealer we took delivery from, but we only got this thing in january.

It looks like grease to me. Too thick for final drive fluid. My guess is a bad axle seal. Based solely on the pic.

Please let us know how you made out with your problem.
What it was and what might have caused it. It definitely should have been a warranty issue at no cost to you .

Thanks

Well i just got a call from them, they think its shaft fluid and it was due to a poor seal from the factory. They are waiting on BRP to see if they can get the parts to repair it, as its not even a part that they can order at the moment from BRP it looks like.

Shucks.

Those seals should be easy to come by. I stand by my original statement. Looks too thick to be gear lube, looks like grease to me and possibly a failed bearing

I realize that BRP want / need to get as many Rykers out the door as they can, but it's kind of... interesting... that they don't have a rear bearing seal or (in the case of another poster) a tail light lens available anywhere.

I've yet to hear from the dealer on whether or not they got the parts ordered. Missed a beautiful day to ride today too. Almost wish there was a loaner I could get in the meantime!
