Tire Lifetime?

#1 Post by ellpee » Mon Mar 09, 2020 6:04 pm

Just starting out with my Ryker, 2000 miles, wondering if anybody has been Rykering long enough to know when tires will need replacement. Talking normal street riding, not constant rally stuff; paved roads, no donuts or the like. On my previous scooters, 7000-8000 was about normal.

The Ryker has only been out for about a year. Probably to early to wear a tire out. Also I think our tires will last much longer than a MC tire.

Motorcycle tires usually only last about 6,000 miles at best. However, automobile tires last about ten times that long. Since the tires on the Ryker are flat like an automobile tire, they should last much longer than motorcycle tires. However, if folks are burning rubber and driving aggressively it would cut the life of the tire considerably.

Another thought. I believe the tires on the rally edition are made of softer rubber for better traction off-road. If this is true, they may wear out quicker than the street tires on the non-rally Rykers. The tires on my BMW Z3 roadster were made of softer rubber for performance driving and lasted only 20,000 miles as a result.

"I believe the tires on the rally edition are made of softer rubber for better traction off-road" Just curious, what makes you think the Rally tires are softer?

One of the early reviews I read said that the rally edition tires were not as good on the highway, because they were made with different tread and softer rubber for better off-road performance.

:D Ive read that the spyder/Ryker tires are not motorcycle tires but are car tires. A downgraded version as they dont have to meet the same load requirements as a car.
They are also flat, not round like a motorcycle tire. Much more thread so will last a long time compared ro a MC tire. :D
