auxiliary power port

Hello all,
After my terrible experience of trying to install after market " plug and play" fog lights, I noticed that once the
little power port plug wire is pulled from its little cubby hole, it has no male connector it plugs into.
It just sits into the hole by itself. Has anyone used this connector for anything? Why is it plugged into that hole if it serves no purpose. Has anyone noticed this?
