I have both. i need the power to climb mountains here, so im ok with the crappy fuel econony. in a month and a half put 700 miles on it and usually 6 bucks a week of 93 keeps it happy for the 8 mile trip to work and back again. My scooter gets 100 mpg but it was never designed for mountains so its rough on the frame. not to mention the 18 percent grade tough on the smaller (big bored) engine.. The ryker handles well. Watch a video of the dragons tail here lol. thats my ride to and from work daily in all weather enviornments.
FWIW, I bought my previous trike, a Chinese piece of cr@p, for use in and around Ruidoso NM, 6000' plus everywhere, up to 9000 at times, and had to do a LOT of fiddling with the fuel system before I got it to run halfway right. Wasn't paying any attention to gas mileage at the time, but I'm sure it had an effect. Not really sure what can be done to the Ryker for high altitude, but it might pay to ask your dealer. (Yeah, the Ryker is EFI ((I think)), but maybe there are electronic things that can be tweaked for the mountains?)

I read a post from a Ryker rider who said that he got the same milage from 87 octane regular as he got from the recommended 91 octane premium. He also did not see much in the way of performance difference. However, there may be minor engine damage if there was some pre-ignition that would not show up immediately. Any comments about that?

I'm not very good at detecting that engine knock thing, but my 600 at 1100 rpm idle seems to "miss" every once in awhile, even when running the "good stuff." Engine seems smooth at any higher rpm though. Almost due for the "first inspection" the manual says I need, so will ask them about it and report whatever they tell me.

Isn't 1100 rpm a little low for idle? I think the ones I used at MSF ran higher.

Dunno, but my manual says idle is set electronically and can only be adjusted by the dealer.

We have two Rykers, 600cc ace and a 900cc ace. Wife and i both filled up at the same time. Came back home the other night and my 900cc had only two bars of fuel when wifes 600cc was still on full. Told wife she is screwed because her fuel gauge is not working

Well anyway i took mine off sport mode.
Have to agree with the earlier post that these things are way too fun to worry about a few gallons of gas.

About the idle thing, notice mine idles at 1400 right after start, but levels out at 1100 once warmed up.
